The Embodied Way Connection
A Beautiful Space for You
Each month I seek to bring to you new ideas about how to care for yourself so that you feel more connected, confident and cherished.
All is welcome at The Embodied Way and it's a place where you can be yourself, with no expectations of perfection- either in life or in how you look.
Acceptance of ourselves can be hard to come by, I know it's been a huge process for me to accept some aspects of my life and to be patient, attentive, caring and kind to myself when the going is rough.
This month, I am sharing a little bit about what I think it takes to priortize ourselves, especially at this time of year. It's dark and the agenda and expectations to create the perfect holiday season are high.
Let's let some of that go! When you come to The Embodied Way, you take of your superperson cape, and just let yourself be.
Have you ever gone an extended amount of time without a holiday? Or maybe you don't utilize your holiday time fully? Or maybe you've even gone through your days or weeks not noticing how you are feeling?
I remember when I worked seven days a week. I wanted more money in my bank account and I thought holding two jobs and not having a day to rest was a smart idea. Well, I lasted about 3 months before my health took a significant dive. So significant that it took me years to undo the damage.
For those of us who grew up with the idea that rest equals laziness (or pennilessness), it's a mental hurdle to take a break. The draw to work, work, work or give, give, give is very strong in me and if I am not careful, I can easily burn the candle at both ends.
Under my new directive to care for my nervous system like never before, I am prioritizing myself in new ways. Yes, this includes a yearly holiday (which I just had and it was awesome!), and more importantly, it includes daily, weekly, and monthly rituals and routines to help me renew myself.
I think this directive requires me to know myself. I must tune in and notice when I am âon the edgeâ of too much. I need to know what times of year I am likely to feel low, or what events might take a lot of energy out of me. It's critical to respect my schedule (and keep it sane), and to not commit to anything out of obligation (aka guilt). In short, I need to know when to say NO.
Each morning, I take some slow time to come into the world- ensuring there are a number of pleasant components included in my routine that resource me for the day. At the end of each week, I look back on what I did, and acknowledge the efforts I put in. Monthly, I like to have something special to look forward to on the calendar- this could be an event, a connection with a friend, or simply a day that I do not have to be anywhere or do anything.
Then there are the regular items that support me, like regular meals, exercise, laughter, doing things I love (like skiing, puzzling, reading, seeing a good movie, having a date with my husband) that all help me feel engaged in my life.
December can be a manic month, but thankfully, I don't have a barrage of activities for my kids on my schedule anymore. I love having adult children! LOL. Finally, I feel like I have got priorities straight so that December is more manageable and enjoyable.
As the year comes to a close, how would you like to structure your days, weeks, months of 2026 so that they feel great to you? Could you structure them so that if you look forward, you see a healthy level of âthat will feel really goodâ on its way to you? Don't think about what you donât want, simply focus on what you do want.
Saying yes to what we do want, to how we want to feel, act and experience and then aligning with those wantsâŚit changes your life.
Have a wonderful season and letâs all look forward to the days getting longer and activities on the horizon that bring a high level of awesome to life.

Rest until you feel like playing, then play until you feel like resting, period. Never do anything else. Martha Beck

Endnotes
This year, my holiday took me to Todos Santos and to Serendipity, a wonderful and tranquil Bed and Breakfast in one of the safest, cleanest parts of the Baja you could find.
I love to have an off-the-beaten track holiday, and this filled the bill perfectly. Only moments from a gorgeous beach and awesome activities. We had a great hike, some awesome beach days, fun food, and got to see the release of some baby turtles on our last day. It was so fun to cheer those little guys on as they busted a gut to get to the sea!
If you are thinking of a holiday that has all the amenities and none of the noise, check out Totos Santos and Serendipity. I highly recommend it and the host Sharon is wonderful.
