A Beautiful Space for You
Each month I seek to bring to you new ideas about how to care for yourself so that you feel more connected, confident and cherished. With a barrage of challenges in our lives, sometimes we struggle to put ourselves first. But, I have a solution for that...come and enjoy the sanctuary I have created for you at The Embodied Way. Each service is focused on your well-being.
When we are resourced, we can more easily face those challenges and not be thrown off by them. That’s why it’s essential to take some time to get in touch with you, and to find ways to look after your whole person. Beauty and vibrancy are built from the inside out and from the outside in- both avenues are important so we can be our best.
This month, I have for you some secrets to great skin and a look at a new way you can rest and resource your body and mind. Please enjoy!
Notes from Glenda
I think a lot about the connection between our skin and our overall well-being. What works to have great skin and a look that is vibrant? Is it a great product and skin care routine? Is it doing everything naturally? Is it the latest skin care gadget? It's hard to know and if you google this question...watch out! Overwhelm and mis-information is alive and well!
I have observed (and studied from all my esthetic and coaching experience) that there are FIVE secrets to having great skin.
- Your emotional well-being
- Your gut health
- Your attitudes
- Your water intake and an overall healthy, vitamin and mineral-rich diet
- A simple, consistent skin care routine using science-based, tested, quality products
Starting with your emotional well-being…this is the first thing that reflects in the countenance of a person. If your skin is not looking vibrant, are you addressing the stress, harder emotions, or situations in your life that need attending to? Are you inviting in and creating enough resourcing and nourishing experiences and connections in your life? Your skin takes in multitudes of information each day. Think of your senses and what aspects of life you live through your skin.
If your skin is clogged or dull...chances are your gut health might need some attention. Constipation and not enough good bacteria will show up in the skin. If you aren’t having two-three good poops per day, then chances are your skin is doing too much work to rid the body of waste. Your skin is your largest organ, it performs many functions of elimination. Many people will have poor skin if their diet is full of sugar as sugar throws off the chemistry of the gut and the blood.
You know the saying, attitude is everything... Well, I had an aunt whose attitude was so bad, that she was a frightening person to look at and be around. She radiated anger and no amount of make-up could hide the hard, mean attitude that showed up on her skin. The constant scowling did nothing for the wrinkles either. Have you ever noticed the difference between wrinkles? Some look wonderful and reflect a joy and contentment in a life well-lived, while others…not so much.
Water and your diet...We all know a healthy diet is important, so I won’t belabour the point. If you do nothing else for your skin, ensure you drink plenty of water. It will flush out toxins, and will give your skin the hydration it needs from the inside out. Life in general is dehydrating and since the body is 75% water, we need to replenish our water supplies everyday. Start your day with at least 2 glasses of H20 and watch the improvement in your energy and skin in real time!
Lastly, the skin care routine... Treat your face differently than the rest of your body please…It is exposed to the elements all the time, the skin is more delicate, therefore, the skin's needs are totally different than the rest of you. Ingredients matter, and how they are formulated matter. Just because something is trendy or labeled a certain way (think beef tallow, turmeric, natural, organic, or clean) doesn’t mean it should go on your face. It might be great for your feet, but let’s not treat our lovely faces like our tootsies!
Products that you trust on your face should be tested, made in sterile labs from high-grade ingredients, and formulated to agree with the PH, condition and type of skin that you have. In addition, always consider lifestyle and the level of enjoyment you might get from a beautiful product that feels delicious on the skin. Otherwise, you are wasting your cash, you could damage your skin and you may be let down or frustrated with the results you wanted.
A New Way to Rest
By Amy Yates.
Amy is an Osteopath and a tenant here at The Embodied way. She has depths of experience and approaches her work from a number of different angles. I invited her to write an article for you that explores what the function of osteopathy is and how it can support your overall health goals, and return your body to itself- so that it functions as you want it to.
Welcome to My Work: Orienting to Rest
To rest is to return—to oneself, to nature, to the original hum of life.
This is where osteopathic work begins.
Osteopathy understands that health is not something imposed from the outside, but something restored from within—through the body’s inherent ability to self-regulate, self-heal, and self-organize. My work invites you into that restoration. It helps you re-enter the rhythmic intelligence that underlies all living systems—an intelligence that the nervous system expresses through flow, balance, and coherence.
The Living System
All living systems move: blood through arteries, breath through lungs, cerebrospinal fluid through ventricles, and tension through the fascial web.
Life is not just movement—it’s coordinated movement. When this coordination falters, symptoms arise: pain, fatigue, anxiety, or disconnection from self.
Through osteopathic principles, we look for where flow has been interrupted — where tissues grip, where energy collapses, where the nervous system has forgotten safety. The work is not about forcing release, but restoring relationships. When the body’s architecture reorients, health follows.
Postural Coherence and the Architecture of Rest
Posture is not static alignment—it’s living balance.
True postural coherence emerges when the body’s lines of tension and compression find harmony, much like a tensegrity structure that holds shape without strain. Osteopathic movement and manual work help the spine, fascia, and fluid systems rediscover this equilibrium. In this equilibrium, chronic pain eases, fatigue lifts, and presence is able to prevail.
You feel taller, lighter, more grounded—not as a posture you hold, but as a natural consequence of restored coherence.
This reorganization improves strength and endurance, not just by building muscle, but by refining how effort is distributed through the fascial web. The result is efficiency—less energy wasted in compensation, more energy available for vitality, presence, and creative action.
With that being said, strength building and intelligent myofascial conditioning are wonderful ways to deepen your self-connection, evoke health resilience and shape presence.
Pain Relief Through Flow
Pain is often the body’s signal that coherence has been lost—that certain tissues are working in isolation rather than in relationship.
By restoring fluid and fascial continuity, osteopathic work helps reintegrate these regions into the whole. As motion returns to the spine, ribs, pelvis, and viscera, local inflammation decreases, and circulation improves.
The nervous system, no longer guarding, can down-regulate from defense into openness.
In this way, pain relief is not the end goal— but it is an essential step towards regaining connection.
When the body no longer fights to survive, it begins to metabolize life differently.
Deep rest increases mitochondrial efficiency, improves tissue oxygenation, and enhances ATP production. This metabolic coherence supports immune function, emotional regulation, and long-term resilience.
In osteopathic terms, this is the return of the body’s healthy primary respiratory mechanism—a subtle rhythmic movement of fluids and membranes that expresses health at every level. As the dura mater softens, as breath deepens, as posture rebalances, the cerebrospinal fluid resumes its natural pulsations. The nervous system reorients toward safety, curiosity, and connection.
The nervous system is not an isolated control center—it is a living bridge between tissue, perception, and environment. When coherence returns, awareness expands. Movement becomes expression, not protection. Strength becomes grace. We begin to experience health not as the absence of symptoms, but as the presence of relationship—with self, with others, with the living world.
My Approach
My work integrates nearly 15 years of experience in health and wellbeing, exploring how the condition of the body shapes perception, how sensations can guide healing, and how the intelligence of the body can lead us toward wiser decisions.
Through movement, education, and osteopathic-inspired guidance, I help people:
- Reorganize posture and restore fascial coherence
- Relieve pain through improved circulation and nervous system balance
- Build functional strength and endurance through efficient movement
- Enhance metabolism and recovery by restoring the body’s internal flow
- Reconnect to a deeper sense of rest, presence, and meaning
In Closing
Osteopathy teaches that life expresses itself through motion—and that health is the freedom of that motion.
This work is an invitation to remember that freedom. Through the nervous system, fascia, and fluids, we rediscover not just how to move, but how to be moved by life.
In rest, we remember who we are.
And from that remembering, health begins.

Autumn Specials
Hands…they do so much for you and sometimes, they are the LAST thing to get some TLC. Some even say…’Why bother, I am always in the garden/doing dishes/hard on my hands etc.’ Now that the colder weather has arrived, your hands will more easily dry out or be at risk of getting chapped. Personally, I hate the feeling of dry hands.
Your hands are one of the first things people see when they see you. A well-groomed hand says a lot. It says, I live life fully and I take care of myself while living. Whether you keep your nails 'au natural' or put on your favourite coloured polish, you'll find you live life with more intention, greater care and presence when your hands are well cared for.
My hands transformed when I started to do regular manicures and yours could be too. I usually keep my nails ‘au natural’ and so I like my nails to look cared for no matter what. Then I am ready to meet the world and my hands are ready to continue to work for me and feel appreciated:)
This fall season, my specials feature some lovely ways to keep your hands at your best.

Women need real moments of solitude and self-reflection to balance out how much of ourselves we give away. Beverly De Angelis
It's very important that we re-learn the art of resting and relaxing. Not only does it help prevent the onset of many illnesses that develop through chronic tension and worrying; it allows us to clear our minds, focus, and find creative solutions to problems. Thich Nhat Hanh
