A Beautiful Space for You
Hello and Happy New Year to each of you⌠Things are afoot here at The Embodied Way as we start this mid-decade yearâŚNext month, I am switching these newsletters and any writing I am doing over to Substack. If you havenât had a chance to check out Substack (and the Substack app), you might find it a lovely place to be. It's a place to build community, learn, and find beauty. But donât worry, you donât need the appâŚyou will continue to get these emails in your inbox. I will make the switch next month after I have figured things out and set things up.
I am imagining the possibilities for this new platform for myself and The Embodied Way. I am choosing to do more in community this year, to build stronger relationships. I want to feel connected to those around me and to spread better vibes into the world (the old cynic in me likes to take over the helm sometimes!) We need more goodness donât you think?
Notes from Glenda
And the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland said, âI am late, I am late, for a very important date! No time to say âHello, Good Byeâ Iâm late, Iâm late, Iâm late!â
Finally, I am sitting down to finish writing this newsletter. I have started it multiple times only to be interrupted but other pressing matters (or my lack of get-up and go) and itâs Jan 9th already. I have some BIG ideas for the newsletter's development which is wonderful and fun! But, I donât know whether to wait to implement the big ideas or to carry forward with the status quo while I build out the big ideas. Which makes me late.
Iâve landed on the status quo for this month, knowing itâs not too late to publish this edition yet! Next month you will see my newsletter become The Art of Life. It is an amalgamation of The Embodied Way and ReAlive Newsletters, and the writing I have done on Medium. As I am not a traditional social media fan, I think that Substack will be a nice combo of all the elements I would like in a platform, in a safe, ad-free, spam-free zone.
One of my habits that I am letting go of is being in too many places at once. I am putting everything under one simple roof, which is exciting and a relief.
The tentative plan will be for my daughter to join me in this endeavour. I am aching for her to share her talents with each of you. I believe she can help you live a more embodied, art-filled life.
Why The Art of Life? Well, our lives are constantly evolving 'art' and each life is a masterpiece- we must work with the colours we have, find what we donât have, and decide how we want to construct our art. Wouldnât it be wonderful to have some help along the way, for the good days and the crummy ones?
As we know...masterpieces are not created in one day (but I wish they were sometimes!). They are painstakingly constructed through baby steps, challenges and hard work. Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland suffered from chronic migraines, ADHD, partial deafness, and epilepsy. He also stammered. He dealt with a lot and still left an incredible mark on the world. As a fellow sufferer of migraines, I can attest that they alone are a difficult challenge to overcome when trying to engage in life the way I want to.
Then, I end up believing itâs all too lateâŚ
Too late to change, too late to do the thing, too late for what I want in life. Itâs too late, too late, toooooo late! This bubbles in my head all day sometimes and drops in as an uninvited guest in many areas of my life. It feels like a chipmunk nattering and chattering away, telling me to get going but without order or completion.
Hereâs one way I have a conversation with the chipmunk.
ReflectionâŚ
I have been reflecting on the past year. What felt good, what didnât, what I loved, what I loathed, what I learned, what materialized that I wanted and what didnât.
This is such a valuable process to go through. It has helped me slow down to appreciate the lovely aspects of the year. By appreciating them a little more, I have given myself the chance to enjoy them again. This is so good for the mind, body and soul. Itâs like savouring a delicious meal all over again. Itâs never too late to enjoy the good things- even the ones in the past!
This type of reflection also helps pinpoint changes Iâd like to make and how I could do things differently this year so I have a more satisfying life experience.
Last year was tough in many ways (oh, the dregs of the past...). Itâs amazing how an event in life in years past can continue to leave messes that need to be tidied up. There is a temptation to give up and leave the mess. But, living in a dirty house doesnât feel good in any way. Itâs never too late to clean up the mess and make new areas for beauty and vibrancy.
The process of reflection helps me see where the messes are and where the areas of beauty and growth are. Intention creates change. This gives me hope and motivation to keep going. I could see clearly that 2024 had more highlights than 2023, including a lovely trip to a remote, quiet part of the Yucatan in Mexico that healed my soul.
It turns out, there is time to say âHello and Goodbyeâ Mr. White Rabbit. All you need to do is slow down, simplify and reflect.
A few questions for you to consider as you begin the year:
What felt good to you and would you like more of in 2025? How can you set yourself for this goodness to be more present?
What mess might you start tidying? Are there any ideas of yourself or others, or habits that if you let them go, would make a new space for beauty to exist?
What have you learned in the past year and if you applied those learnings, they would help you make change faster and easier?
What will you pay attention to and cherish this year?
